About Me

The start

I started creating web sites in 1997, I never originally intended to create web sites. At the time my main interest was 3D modeling, a few years earlier a friend showed my Imagine on the Amiga, after getting a copy for my PC I was hooked.

In 1997 we decided that we were good enough to show our work so I created a very simple web site allowing people to view our 'awesome' renders and to download some of the 3D objects.

The web took over

In 1999 my friend and I decided to move from Devon to Reading, we both needed a change and hoped to get better jobs.

Once we had moved we both decided that we needed to start something new, a new project to get our teeth into.

At the time the number of galleries on the web was quite limited, we decided to create a new gallery, that gallery eventually became Gallery of 3D.com.

I ran the gallery for almost 10 years, in 2008 I sold it for personal reasons.

PHP

It was whilst running the gallery that I learnt PHP (appx 2000), more from necessity than anything else, the site had exploded to 4500 pages and needed to be brought under control, for the next two years I ate and slept PHP.

Professional

In 2002-3 I started working professionally, initially I created small internal appications and web sites but later moved on to create some very complex specialised systems.

I've spent a few years working in development houses but in 2009 decided to move back to freelancing and contracting.

Over the years I have realised that I specialise in creating middleware (frameworks) and custom applications, if you would like to see a copy of my CV please visit the contact me page.
